Are You Suffering From knee pain In Chislehurst or Dulwich?

Wellness In Motion is here to help!

At Wellness in Motion, we specialise in managing knee pain across a wide spectrum of ages and conditions, ranging from adolescents involved in sports to elderly patients dealing with arthritis. We emphasise the knee’s role as the body’s largest load-bearing joint, highlighting its capability to withstand significant forces during daily activities like walking and running.

Our approach contrasts sharply with the limited management options often offered in public health systems, where patients with knee issues are frequently advised to endure the pain until it worsens enough to justify surgical intervention. Wellness in Motion challenges this approach, advocating for proactive and comprehensive management strategies that include targeted hands-on treatments and innovative therapies.

We employ techniques like dry needling and soft tissue work to alleviate muscular tension around the knee, often revealing that what patients perceive as knee pain may actually stem from tight muscles rather than structural issues within the joint itself. At Wellness in motion we emphasise the importance of a thorough functional assessment process. This will include movements like squats and lunges  to replicate the day-to-day movements we all rely on our knees for normal function. For our more sports orientated patients we use a battery of different hop tests and plyometric drills to identify any asymmetries or deficits in output.

Our treatment philosophy extends beyond localised knee problems, recognising the interconnectedness of musculoskeletal health. We explore how issues in adjacent areas like the ankles or hips can contribute to knee pain, aiming for holistic solutions that address the root causes rather than just symptoms.

For patients with knee arthritis, we offer a NICE approved treatment known as AposHealth, which involves biomechanically calibrated shoes designed to realign the knee joint, reduce pain, and enhance neuromuscular function through daily activities. This approach has been instrumental in helping patients avoid knee replacement surgeries by improving functional movement and reducing pain effectively. For more information please click here.

For patients with sports related knee pain either over the front (jumpers knee) or side (runners knee) we offer shockwave therapy. This treatment breaks up scar tissue and calcification in overloaded tendons and can be very effective in helping patients return to the sports and activities they love.

At Wellness in Motion we also treat numerous adolescent sports stars of the future. Teens can present with a range of growth-related or over-use related conditions such as Osgoods-Schlatters, osteo-chondral defects or patello-femoral pain syndrome. We are experienced in recognising when teens require a period of rest or if it may be safe to push through symptoms or when further investigation such as scans or X-rays may be required. Worst thing you can do with your child is adopt a wait and see policy without first knowing what is wrong!
