Are You Suffering With A Running Injury In Chislehurst or Dulwich?

Wellness In Motion is here to help!

At Wellness in Motion, our approach to managing runners’ injuries is grounded in a deep understanding of the demands and mechanics involved in running, catering to a diverse clientele ranging from casual Park Run participants to ultra-marathoners and Ironman triathletes. We refute common misconceptions that running inherently damages knees, instead we believe that proper management and addressing underlying issues are key to preventing and treating injuries effectively.

We encounter a variety of common running injuries in the clinic, such as Achilles tendon problems, lateral knee pain (runner’s knee), and ITB (iliotibial band) pain. These issues often arise due to asymmetries or biomechanical imbalances during running, exacerbated by high mileage or inadequate muscle strength. Wellness in Motion employs a range of specialised treatments tailored to these conditions, including shockwave therapy, which we use to break down scar tissue and calcification in tendons.

Our treatment philosophy integrates intensive biomechanical analysis to pinpoint root causes of injuries. We emphasise the importance of addressing muscular imbalances and enhancing strength through personalised strength and conditioning programs. This holistic approach not only targets immediate pain relief but also aims to optimise long-term running performance by correcting mechanics and supporting injury recovery without resorting to extended periods of rest, except when absolutely necessary.

We highlight the resilience of tendons as tough, inelastic structures that require precise treatment to stimulate healing. Despite the challenges posed by tendon injuries, Wellness in Motion has seen accelerated recovery with shockwave therapy, which can significantly reduce healing times and restore functionality.

We often treat runners with shin pain or pain in the front of the hip that typically comes on after longer runs or when pushing a higher workload than normal. Often these are just muscular aches and pains and are easily rectified however sometimes these can be bone stress injuries i.e. the beginnings of a stress fracture. Shockwave therapy can be used to successfully treat these conditions as well however if a stress fracture is suspected we will always refer patients on for further investigation to check bone density, bio-markers in the blood and MRI to rule out serious systemic pathology.

Overall, our commitment to supporting runners of all ages and abilities underscores our dedication to providing comprehensive care that not only treats injuries but also enhances overall running performance and longevity. By combining advanced therapeutic techniques with a deep understanding of biomechanics and muscular function, Wellness in Motion empowers runners to maintain their fitness and continue pursuing their goals while minimising the risk of recurring injuries.

"I am a keen, 48 year old club athlete. I run distances that range from 800m to marathon and have been using Wellness in Motion for approximately 10yrs. I am a huge advocate of the service that Chris offer and would recommend them above any others that I have used over the years. This is because they apply a methodical and practical approach, founded on an extremely impressive understanding of the body and its workings, that both targets the immediate ‘local’ issue (i.e. the thing that is causing the pain) with a broader focus on any underlying problems that may have caused the injury in the first place. It’s the combination of those two elements (targeting the immediate issue and highlighting any underlying physiological contributors to the problem), combined with an impressive knowledge of historical data and statistics that leads me to implicitly trust their judgement. That is vital when dealing with an injury or a set-back that requires attention."
